It’s smaller and older but just know that going in and you won’t be disappointed. James and Secrets Huatulco in past and yes they were more updated but this resort is really nice. Guys! I’m really confused by all of the negative reviews! We have stayed at Secret St. She said yes.Compared to our stay at Secrets St James/Wild Orchid in Montgego Bay, Secrets Aura/Cozumel was disappointing. I asked her if she would have given up a day of sunshine for a better food experience. To sum it up would be this: my wife and I discussed everything on our car ride home from the airport. I also did the snorkel tour and it too was decent. Jose the gardener is the hardest worker on the entire grounds. Vicky at the Prefferd Club pool is the best. We ate at La Cav on our last night-our group was comped due to one of the couples in our group being moved due to “plumbing issues” The staff was friendly and hard working. Drinks were good and not watered down.Gohan sushi was decent and the Sky Bar is thee place to view the spectacular sunsets. Order an omelette to get a hot breakfast. I left hungry.The breakfast buffet offered the same items every day. The sauce was watery and the chicken amounted to 10 pieces of chicken the size of my pinky nail. Portofino Italian place we had Chicken Alfredo.
We were members of the Preferred Club during our stay.Preferred Club members did not seem to enjoy preferred status: the preferred club pool was not enforced for non preferred members (we stayed at a Secrets in Jamaica and it was strictly enforced for Preferred Members only) The food was not very good and often cold. The shower configuration/drainage caused flooding in the immediate area and eventually the water flooded the adjacent toilet area. The room was decent sized and was kept clean. We stayed in an ocean view junior superior suite. We love the brand so will look for another location to call home.
This is not true for other Secrets Resorts. We commented to the hotel staff and were told this is Mexico we smoke everywhere.

Our only smoke free areas were either in our room or in a restaurant. The smell of a cigar is almost as bad as smelling swamp gas. I love to sit out in the morning as the world wakes up but my downstairs neighbors liked an early morning cigar. Smoking is not allowed in the rooms but is on the decks. Smoking is allowed around the pools, at the beach and all open spaces. There is little restrictions for smoking. However we won’t be back to this property. Our waiter Angel did a marvelous job! The entertainment team led by Juanini and Israel offered lots to do- we loved the whole coconut cocktails on the beach, the evening fire show, and the foam party is not to be missed. Our other favorite foods were found at the Mexican restaurant next door at Sunscape- aski for the fried ice cream for a very impressive fiery presentation. Our glasses were never empty and he made certain the our food preferences were met. The Oceana food was by far the best service -Alejandro is a rock star. We were celebrating a birthday on our trip and the door had a banner across it with a balloon centerpiece on the bed. Stocked mini bar, a bottle of tequila, a chilled bottled of sparkling wine and fresh fruit awaited us. We spent a week in the newly remodeled preffered club rooms. Our only smoke free areas were either in our room or in.
